Hello and welcome to my July newsletter 2019

“Things don’t always go to plan” -lessons in equanimity, resilience, and Loving Kindness

As you can probably tell from the lead in title of this month’s newsletter, and the fact that July’s newsletter is coming to you on the cusp of a new month – things haven’t gone to plan for me this month in many ways and it has been a work in progress as far as my practice has gone. None the less, setbacks offer useful life lessons that help us progress and evolve- there is always a ‘silver lining’ so to speak. Fifty years ago this July, after a tragically unsuccessful routine training a couple of years earlier, much was learned, and NASA was not deterred. Man walked on the moon.
Although neuroscience shows that our brain is designed for our survival and not our happiness, research shows that many of us are also optimistic in our general outlook – which is great as research referred to in a recent Guardian online article that optimism  not only helps us become more resilient but it is also good for our health and does not set us up for disappointment.
I have learned a great deal about resilience through my personal mindful self -compassion practice, my psychology background, and the teachings of inspiring neuropsychologists such as Rick Hanson and his excellent book resilient
Two brand new emotional resilience day retreats
I would like to share my learning with you, over forty years of resilience-experience and twenty years in clinical practice, I have, through my own resilience building experience, psychology background, and clinical work gained some insight into how to build and strengthen your emotional resilience. If you would like to know more about resilience and how to develop this inner emotional strength then come and join me this August as I offer two brand new emotional resilience day retreats: Recovering from setbacks Saturday August 3, and Forgiveness  Saturday August 10

“mental resources like determination, self-worth, and kindness are what makes us resilient: able to cope with adversity and push through challenges…True resilience fosters well-being, an underlying sense of happiness, love, and peace”
Rick Hanson from his book  ‘Resilient’ 2018’

The path to emotional resilience is life-long and often winding but well worth following, so come and join me over the next few months as I show you the way through the mindful self- compassion course, my day retreats,  relaxation classes – new dates and venue TBC shortly, a deeply calming silent day retreat in October, and two nurturing Autumn weekend retreats this September and this November.
